Today you will listen to yet another podcast. Just like yesterday, note what techniques are employed in order to make the podcast interesting. Do this on the same sheet of paper as yesterday.

Please turn in your notes before you leave. They will be graded. It is your responsibility to make sure the sub has them in hand BEFORE you leave.

HW: Choose a WWII book that you will read. Be sure to at least know the title and the author of the book. Enjoy the weekend.

  • Book is your choice, may be fiction or non-fiction
  • While reading you must take note of references to, mentions of history you have studied
  • You will be expected to make 3 substantial connections to your WWII studies and present on those-pay attention and keep post its as you read.
Discuss observations made bwt podcast and teleplay that we watched/listened to last week. The objective of this discussion will be to determine the elements of an entertaining podcast so we can be better prepared to write one about WWII.

We will listen to the Prologue and Act 2 of this podcast with an ear for how a change in medium (TV to radio) changes how the story has to be told? What challenges does Ira Glass face in telling his story that Rod Serling does not?

We will round out class with students recording their observations on this survey

Read for 10 minutes with a SOC
Now we will take time to look at the script of the teleplay. We will begin by sharing out what made the episode memorable and why. We will then take a look at the script and discover how the writers crafted it so it would be easy to follow and so it would work on television.  ( If you were not here you should jot your ideas down on a sheet of paper and share those with me).

 I will print your paper if you haven't and then you will need to complete the Revision reflection worksheet.

You finally have time again to read in class. We will do a quick SOC then you will take 20 minutes to read now.

Today you will read your rough draft and label the paragraph you think is your best and label the one you think is your weakest. Next to each list your reasoning.
Next you will partner up with someone who will be honest with you. You will tell them what you want them to listen for so they can help you make your piece better. You will then do the same for them (peer editing is only as good as you make it)
Next you will type your rough draft(YES SHARE IT WITH ME)-everyone will try voice to text so you see about that as a possibility. Some of you will think it is awesome, others will not love it. I just want you all to try it :)



HW: Finish the typed RD (DO NOT THROW THE HANDWRITTEN ONE AWAY) enjoy the weekend

7 minute discussion of our findings yesterday and discuss what a good explication does.

pull up your poetry toolbox with literary device definitions

     Step 1: READ-mark up anything you notice
     Step 2: Wonder-- ask questions, note literary devices
     Step 3: Think--fill out worksheet ( I will hand out physical copy of this in class-if not here, use this digital copy)

     There are 5 papers, students will place them in order of best to least well done. Best on top. (If you are out, please create a google doc where you can share your findings with me).

      writing a new explication for a grade.


HW: Find a song (that is appropriate for school) to work with in class tomorrow. Fill this survey out in order to submit the lyrics and link to the song.  No reading assigned which means you can read without post its!
