Today in class we read for 10 minutes then we reflected on what we read in a 3 minute quick write in our reflections on reading portion of our reader's notebooks.
Then we looked at our old reading logs and determined about how many pages per minute we averaged and looked at all the data on the logs to learn about ourselves as readers. We wrote what we know about ourselves as readers in the "ALl About ME" section of our notebooks and then set some goals for the next four weeks. these goals ranged from "I have to be more organized and read more to I want to increase the amount of time I read in a sitting to I will read more efficiently at home by putting my cellphone away.....
HW: read and log Reading logs collected MOnday--150 minutes is the minimum amount of time that can be logged to get full credit. Also I will check your "TO READ" section to be sure it is complete with a minimum of 5 titles. Reminder you must have the full title and the author of the text in order for it to count.

(Skiers just make sure you have identified five books that you would like to read and we can transfer those tittles into the correct part of your notebook.)

Today we spent the day working on finalizing our drafts. This means we worked on the computers and students should have decided on a way to get work from school to home and from home to school. I think Google docs is a great way to accomplish this and many students used their gmail accounts. A USB drive is also a useful means of transferring work between locations. Additionally, they were shown a powerpoint that outlined the expectations for the next step in the project which is to create a power point to assist in the presentation each student will give next week.
HW: Final drafts are due tomorrow for the morning block and on Monday for the afternoon block. Additionally, students need to continue reading and logging their time. 150 minutes are due on Monday.

Today we modeled how to take notes and read an example of a sample paper. Students were given time in class to put highlighted important information into their own words in the form of bulleted notes on their note sheets and many began their rough drafts. Some students are behind for one reason or another. All students need to be sure to come to class tomorrow with notes completed and with a rough draft in hand. Also a reminder-150 minutes should be logged on reading logs by Monday.

We then devoted about 15 minutes to highlighting expectations. Students were to find at least two useful articles, cite them and then read them for understanding hand highlight them for class tomorrow. We will meet in my classroom tomorrow.
