Today we read for 10 minutes, filled out a status of the class then read for 10 minutes
Next we quickly reviewed the idea that theme is a message about life that the author wants to show through his/her piece of work.
I read What if Everybody Did That by Ellen Javernick. Sorry it's so shaky.
We then spent time discussing possible themes in this short children's book.
If you were out, please listen to the story (linked above-sorry it's so shaky) and then email me at least two possible themes and an explanation of how that theme is developed in the story.
HW: none (unless you are behind in reading then read a bit) Enjoy the weekend

Recap what is theme?
unpack of Three Little Pigs noting how we find theme by looking at plot and characters
--Who knew there were so many life lessons embedded in that little gem of a story:
Evil can be outwitted
Hard work pays off
When all else fails, family's got your back
Evil is persistent but can be conquered
Planning provides protection
HW: Read 20 minutes

Today we read for 10 minutes
We then watched a Flocabulary on theme and discussed the difference between topic and theme.
We pasted a glue in of topics in our reader's notebooks and then practiced developing themes around topics.
