1--Please open your Writer’s Notebook to your three potential themes in Nightjohn by Gary Paulsen.  Read through them again.  Determine which one you think there is the most evidence in the text to support and list all the ways this theme is developed in the book.  This can and should be in list form.

Example:

Idea: Roger learns a lesson in an unexpected way

Proposed theme----Some people even though they are not teachers in the traditional sense, can teach us valuable lessons.

Evidence in “Thank You M’am[l1] ” when I look at Mrs. Jones: 

Mrs. Jones who is being robbed teaches Roger a lesson and she does it by:

• Ø  Kicking him in the seat of his pants
• Ø  Grabbing him by the arm and dragging him down the street
• Ø  Telling him to pick up her purse
• Ø  Making him wash his face
• Ø  Bringing him to her house
• Ø  Giving him dinner
• Ø  Asking him questions about himself
• Ø  Being kind
• Ø  Trusting him—she left him with her purse right there
• Ø  Giving him money for shoes[l2]

Welcome, Please take out writer’s notebook and open to “My Work”

Consider the worksheet in front of you.  Try to make some general statements about the ideas there.

We shared our glogs with each other today and filled out a worksheet comparing our glogs to each others.  Every individual is responsible for turning this worksheet in.
HW: In writer's notebook "My Work" reflect on the blog assignments you have completed so far--FULL PAGE of writing considering what worked well, what you liked, what you disliked, suggestions, and other comments.  Also READ/POST IT.

Today we spent two minutes writing in writer's notebooks in the section "My Work". We wrote about the necessary elements for an essay.  We then discussed the difference between and essay and a story and the elements that are necessary in an essay.
HW: Read/log/post-it--track character development.
